Slovenia to back Moldova in its european integration efforts Slovenia will be backing Moldova on its way to European integration, Dmitrij Rupel, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Slovenia presiding in the European Union, stated in Sofia during his meeting with the Moldovan Deputy Premier, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Andrei Stratan. Both are attending the Sofia conference on transforming the Stability Pact for South Eastern Europe into the Regional Cooperation Council. Dmitrij Rupel confirmed the need for resolving the Transnistria problem in the 5+2 negotiation format [Moldova and Transnistria as the conflicting sides, Russia, Ukraine and the OSCE as international mediators; and the European Union and United States as observers]. He invited his Moldovan colleague to pay a working visit to Ljubljana on April 15. While in Sofia, Andrei Stratan met also with Serbian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vuc Jeremic and stated Republic of Moldova condemns the unilateral declaration of independence by the Serbian province of Kosovo. Stratan reaffirmed Moldova’s solidarity with the stance of Serbia, so Belgrade may count on the official Chisinau’s political support on the Kosovo issue. The Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister briefed his Serbian colleague on the current developments around the Transnistrian conflict settlement. Vuc Jeremic assured Serbia would never support decisions going contrary to Moldova’s interests. The two diplomats spoke out for expanding the Moldo-Serbian cooperation, and agreed that Andrei Stratan would pay a visit to Belgrade later this year. // Infotag Publication date: 28 February 2008 Source: Archive
