An AMN deputy announces about an attempt of fadeout of the judges’ independence
Gheorghe Susarenco, deputy of „Moldova Noastra” Alliance (AMN), asserts that the level of independence of judges will decrease, if the Parliament adopt a law project which has come from the Government, referring to the fact that the general prosecutor will have the right to start the judges’ penal investigation with the approval of the Senion Council of the Magistracy (SCM).
According to the deputy’s words, the project has been already approved by the juridical board for appointment and immunities of the Parliament, DECA-press Agency informs. The document says that the general prosecutor will have to inform SCM of the beginning of the penal investigation and that is enough. Gheorghe Susarenco believes that this law project is meant to “intimidate the judge and the intention to keep him farther from the current governing system’s fear”. He announced that, if the project is adopted, he will contest it at the Constitutional Court. // DECA-Press Publication date: 14 February 2008 Source: Archive
