You've got to be careful of other people today -- not because they want to stab you in the back, but just because they might all be running off in their own directions. They're slightly out of control!

Latvia to back Moldova implement internal reforms

Latvia will back Moldova's internal reforms implementation process and will prop up the European integration of any state that meets the Copenhagen criteria. Latvian Foreign Minister Maris Riekstins today made statements to this effect after a meeting with Moldovan Foreign and European Integration Minister Andrei Stratan.

Touching upon Moldova's European integration prospects, Riekstins said Latvia is awaiting the evaluation report on the Moldova-EU Action Plan and on Moldova's progress on this path, document that will be worked out by experts of the European Commission and unveiled next April. Based on this report, we will establish the next steps Moldova needs to meet its aspirations, the Latvian official said.

Maris Riekstins highlighted that, jointly with Andrei Stratan, they approached the bilateral cooperation framework and the Transnistrian conflict settlement prospect. In the context, the Latvian minister said his country backs Moldova's territorial integrity and advocates the resumption of the 5+2 negotiations. He also welcomed Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin's initiatives aimed at bolstering confidence between Chisinau and Tiraspol.

For his part, Stratan underlined that Latvia has always supported Moldova. He specified that at the today's meeting with his Latvian counterpart, they tackled the entire spectrum of political, economic and social relations between the two countries as well as possibilities of strengthening this cooperation.
