President Voronin: Moldovan-Russian relations do not run counter to Moldova's European integration
The stable relations and the important economic interests with the Russian Federation do not run counter to the European integration course, Moldova speaks out for, President Vladimir Voronin said in a 17 December interview with the Euronews TV channel.
Voronin emphasised that there are no divergences between Moldova and Russia concerning Chisinau's European vector; on the contrary. During meetings with the Moldovan head of state, Russian President Vladimir Putin highly and repeatedly appreciated the European integration path Moldova has chosen, Voronin specified. The head of state said Moldova is a small country and "we have to promote such a policy which would lead the state towards significant achievements". In the context, Voronin recalled that Moldova has a preferential trade regime with the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and from 1 January 2008, Moldova will benefit from the EU Asymmetric Trade Regime, which is vital for our country, the president said. Asked about the Moldova-EU Action Plan, Voronin said the judiciary reform, human rights and the fight against corruption are the sectors requiring most efforts on the part of the Moldovan authorities so that the plan be fully implemented. In the context, President Voronin recalled that all along the implementation of the Moldova-EU Action Plan, the Moldovan parliament adopted about 200 laws based on the European legislation and standards. // Moldpres Publication date: 18 December 2007 Source: Archive
