Voronin calls on all state structures to pursue the path of European Integration

Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin has called upon all state organs to follow the path of the country's European integration "responsibly, consistently and honestly".

The head of state chaired a working meeting on the implementation of the EU-Moldova European Neighborhood Policy Action Plan, which was attended by Parliament Chairman Marian Lupu, Prime Minister Vasile Tarlev, Deputy Premier, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Andrei Stratan, Cabinet members, Presidential Advisers, and other officials.

Voronin emphasized that the Action Plan "is first and foremost a system of the authorities' commitments to their citizens, is a plan of modernization of the legal and socio-economic system, which will bring Moldova closer to European Union standards".

"In this sense, we must undertake special efforts to substantially improve Moldova's indicators in the spheres of combating corruption, creation of a favorable investment climate, improving the judiciary. It is essential for us to advance also in other directions such as creation of conditions for greater media independence, greater transparency of the power, and firmer guarantees of human rights", stressed Voronin.

He presumes, "all these are not just abstract indicators or requirements invented by somebody. These are the standards of our time, standards of the modern life that must consolidate in the country and become irreversible".

The President spoke out for intensification of legislative initiatives related to the EU-Moldova European Neighborhood Policy Action Plan realization. In particular, he referred to the 11 draft laws that must be considered by parliament without delay. Among them are the drafts of the Code of Ethics of a Civil Servant, reform of the prosecutor system [prokuratura], the Law on combating corruption, the Law on the conflict of interests, and other.

Voronin said it is particularly important to pass a special law on assemblies, which has already been positively assessed by European Union experts. This law is to put an end to frivolous interpretations of such sensitive issues as the right of assembly.

He emphasized how important it is to implement the EU-Moldova ENP Action Plan without formalism and to be in a continuous dialog with the European Commission and European Union Member States.

"The opening of the Visa Application Center in Moldova, the Visa Facilitation Agreement, the introduction of asymmetrical trade, the European Union Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine - all these are the European Union's important-most decisions with respect to Moldova. And we must proceed with our European integration equally responsibly, consistently and honestly", said President Vladimir Voronin. // Infotag
