Balkan police stop cocaine smuggling ring
Police of Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Greece have stopped an international ring that allegedly tried to smuggle 353 pounds of cocaine to Western Europe.
A Croatian police spokesman told reporters in Zagreb Wednesday the cocaine was shipped from a Latin American port to Europe and en route to Bosnia and Croatia it was reportedly destined for the EU black market, where its value would reach about $9 million, Croatia's Nova TV said Wednesday. Police of Greece assisted police of Bosnia and Croatia in a joint action when six Bosnians and two Croatians were arrested, the spokesman said. The police operation was still under way as anti-drug teams had been following suspects of the international trafficking ring for several months. Croatian police officials said heroin was being smuggled from Afghanistan and Turkey en route of Macedonia, Serbia, Bosnia and Croatia to EU countries. // Copyright 2007 by United Press International Publication date: 28 November 2007 Source: Archive
