European Parliament ratifies visa facilitation and readmission agreements
The European Parliament on 13 November ratified the agreements on the facilitation of the issuance of visas and on readmission between Moldova and the European Community, which are to enter into force on 1 January 2008.
Under the agreement on the facilitation of the issuance of visas, Moldovans will be issued visas within ten days for 35 euros. A series of categories of people [students, disabled people, journalists, participants in cultural and educational exchange programmes, sport events, Moldovans under 18, retirees, international drivers, officials, businessmen, etc.] will need less visa documents and will be exempted from visa fee. People traveling frequently to the EU will benefit from multi-entry visas valid for up to five years. At the same time, holders of diplomatic passports will travel visa free. The agreement on the readmission of illegal immigrants is an effective and rapid mechanism of repatriation of people staying illegally on the territory of one of the contractual sides. The negotiations on the agreements on the facilitation of the issuance of visas and on readmission between Moldova and the European Community kicked off on 9 February 2007. The documents were initialed in Chisinau last April and signed in Brussels on 10 October 2007. // Moldpres Publication date: 15 November 2007 Source: Archive
