Iraq violence kills two U.S. troops
Two U.S. soldiers were killed and two others injured in Iraq's northwestern Nineveh province, a military statement in Baghdad said Thursday.
The Task Force Iron members were targeted Wednesday with an explosive device near their vehicle during an undisclosed operation, the report said. The deaths brought October's U.S. fatality count to 39, CNN said. Elsewhere, the military reported three suspected al-Qaida fighters were killed in a security sweep in the northern city of Kirkuk, Kuwait's KUNA news agency reported. Further north in the city of Mosul, police reported finding eight charred corpses in two locations, some of whom appeared to have been police officers, KUNA said. Meanwhile, the number of civilians killed in Iraq in October showed a marked decline, the Iraqi Health Ministry reported. The ministry said 758 civilians died last month, down from 884 in September and 2,076 in January, the Los Angeles Times reported Thursday. About 2.25 million Iraqis have been displaced within the country and another 2 million have fled Iraq, the ministry estimated. // Copyright 2007 by United Press International Publication date: 01 November 2007 Source: Archive
