U.S.-led coalition forces killed an estimated 25 insurgents Friday in Iraq while searching for a terrorist moving weapons from Iran to Baghdad.

The insurgents were killed during an airstrike west of Baquba after a fire fight in which coalition forces targeted an insurgent commander believed linked to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps' Quds Force, CNN reported.

Outside Samara, north of Baghdad, a senior member of an anti al-Qaida Sunni alliance was buried Friday after being killed by a roadside bomb. Muawiya Jebara, of the Salaheddin Awakening Council, and three of his guards were killed by insurgents Thursday in Salaheddin province north of Baghdad.

The Salaheddin Awakening Council was the latest alliance of Sunni tribes against al-Qaida, CNN reported. Shortly after its formation in May, gunmen attacked the home of one of the council's local leaders in Baiji and kidnapped four of his sons. Last month, gunmen killed the head of the Anbar Awakening Council.
