Ecuadorians voted Sunday to reconfigure their government by way of a new constituent assembly that will likely dissolve the country's Congress.
Leftist President Rafael Correa said the assembly would help restore democracy to Ecuador by removing corrupt lawmakers, El Comercio reported online.
Opponents and critics of Correa accused the president of trying to create a socialist state.
Ecuador has had four presidents in the last 10 years.
