Democratic Party has now only one councilor in CMC
The Democratic Party (PD) remained with only one councilor in the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) of the five included in the lists. This is Oazu Nantoi. At Thursday’s meeting of the Council, the other four members of the PD fraction announced their intention to leave the group.
Three of them, Alexandru Tanase, Galina Talai and Vladimir Cotet, said they set up a new Liberal-Democratic faction in the CMC. The fifth councilor, Mihai Severovan, said he will remain independent councilor. Alexandru Tanase, the chairman of the new faction, said that the decision is voluntary, specifying that the councilors that left the Democratic faction were not members of the party but candidates on the PD’s lists. Asked by REPORTER.MD to comment on the former Democratic councilors’ decision, the PD leader Dumitru Diacov said that everyone has the right to choose and that such cases are part of the phenomenon of political tourism in Moldova. “It is their decision that was probably taken owing to the situation in the Council. The decision to leave the faction was not made today. It was intentionally postponed in order to promote certain persons and form a new faction,” Diacov said, making it clear that the councilors that left the faction will follow Filat, because he was the one to promote them on the lists of Democratic councilors. Diacov added that the PD will continue its activity in the CMC even with one councilor. Ten political organizations that polled over 2% in the June 3 local elections are represented in the new CMC at present. The Communist Party holds 16 mandates, the Liberal Party - 11, the Our Moldova Alliance - seven, the Democratic Party and the Christian Democratic People’s Party – by four, the Social Democracy Party – three, the Social-Democratic Party and the Humanist Party – by two, the Block “Patria-Rodina-Ravnopravie” and the National Liberal Party – by one mandate. // Reporter.MD Publication date: 20 September 2007 Source: Archive
