Opposition parties negotiating formation of coalitions
Opposition parties are holding negotiations on forming coalitions in local councils across the republic, Moldova Noastra Alliance leader MP Serafim Urechean told the press.
The talks involve practically all the opposition parties that achieved success at the local elections last June 3 and 17 - the Moldova Noastra Alliance, the Christian Democratic Popular Party, the Social Liberal Party, the Social Democratic Party of Moldova, the Party of Social Democracy, the People's Republican Party, and the Centrist Union of Moldova. Their leaders are meeting regularly, discussing the principles of forming of anti-communist coalitions in the localities. The opposition parties are going to actively utilize the defeat the Communists suffered in most raions of the country, except in the Briceni and Ocnita raions and in Balti city. In all the rest 33 raions, the democratic forces are taking local power over into their hands. In some localities, democrats have already formed majority coalitions, forcing the Communists into the opposition. The democrats believe time has come to take over power at the local level so that to subsequently win at the level of central power at the 2009 parliamentary elections. // Infotag Publication date: 21 June 2007 Source: Archive
