Moldovan president meets U.S. ambassador to Moldova

President Vladimir Voronin has met U.S. Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to Moldova Michael D. Kirby, according to the presidential press service.

The officials approached aspects regarding the implementation of the Country Preliminary Programme and the elaboration of Moldova's proposals of participating in the final full assistance stage within the Millennium Challenge Programme.

In this respect, the president reiterated the importance the Moldovan authorities attach to the successful implementation of the Millenium Challenge's Preliminary Plan and Moldova's participation in the final full assistance stage within the Millenium Challenge Account Programme. Vladimir Voronin stressed that the reduction of the area where the corruption's development is possible will be among the effects of the initiatives designed to liberalise the national economy, which the head of state launched yesterday.

The officials exchanged opinions on the prospects for the Transnistrian conflict settlement. Vladimir Voronin and Michael D. Kirby emphasized the importance to maintain the existing 5+2 negotiations format, which gives guarantees for the conflict's final political settlement. // Moldpres
