Bulgarian prime minister Stanishev in surprise visit to Baghdad
Baghdad/Sofia (dpa) - Bulgarian Prime Minister Sergey Stanishev arrived in Baghdad on Tuesday, in a surprise visit 10 days after his previously planned trip was cancelled.
He was due to meet Iraqi President Jalal Talabani and Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, his cabinet said in Sofia. Stanishev's arrival in Baghdad coincided with another suicide bombing which killed at least 57 people and injured 150 in a crowded square. As a part of the US-led coalition, Bulgaria maintains a contingent of 150 troops in Iraq. // © 2006 DPA Publication date: 12 December 2006 Source: Archive
