Kalman Mizsei: Voronin-Smirnov meeting will give a new political impetus to 5+2 talks
A meeting of President Vladimir Voronin and Transdniestrian leader Igor Smirnov would give a fresh political impetus to the talks in the 5+2 format, the EU Special Representative for Moldova Kalman Mizsei told Reintegration Minister Vasilii Sova at a meeting on October 10.
Vasilii Sova said that the Moldovan authorities would like the mediators and observers to step up efforts so that the talks in the 5+2 format could be resumed. The EU official reiterated that Moldova can count on the European Union’s support in hastening the settlement of the Transdniestrian conflict by granting a special legal status to Transdniestria, maintaining the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Moldova. ![]() The interlocutors stressed the necessity of stepping up the activity of the confidence building working groups. They said that the working out of joint projects aimed at developing infrastructure and at solving economic, social and other kinds of problems would enable to improve the situation of the people living on the two banks of the Dniester.
