EU guarantees inviolability of Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova
Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova can count on the European Union’s support for their territorial integrity and sovereignty, the European Commissioner for External Relations and European Neighborhood Policy Benita Ferrero-Waldner said after the summit dedicated to the conflict in Georgia.
According to Benita Ferrero-Waldner, the commitments concerning the development of the Eastern Partnership and of the European Neighborhood Policy made by the EU in June show that it cares about this region. ”The European Union will not allow a new authoritarian regime in Europe and the EU partners like Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova can count on the organization’s support,” the European Commissioner said, adding that the EU is ready to take all the steps needed to strengthen the Eastern Partnership. The Polish-Swedish initiative ‘Eastern Partnership’ envisages strengthening relations with such countries as Moldova, Ukraine, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Armenia and Belarus. The aim of the partnership is to help these countries come closer to the EU. The project does not involve Russia, with which the EU would like a separate strategic partnership.
