Voronin’s holiday abroad is unjustified, political party considers

”Given the difficult situation of the people affected by floods, President Vladimir Voronin’s vacation abroad is totally unjustified,” the Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova (PLDM) says in a statement.

PLDM representatives consider that the head of state must prove responsibility and be near the people that are in difficulty. “The state institutions should take emergency measures given that thousands of people and hectares of agricultural land have been affected by floods and the damage caused is significant,” the statement says.

According to PLDM, the sporadic visits made by officials to the affected areas cannot replace the strategies for removing the consequences of floods and the measures that should be taken to remedy the situation.

PLDM demands that the Parliament should come together for an extraordinary sitting. The head of state and the ministers should attend the meeting to consider the measures that must be taken to support the people living in the flooded areas.

The damage caused by floods has not been assessed yet. According to preliminary reports, 1,183 houses have been inundated and 7,851 people evacuated as a result of the floods.//REPORTER.MD
