Try to give yourself a reality check -- it may be tough to get it from anyone else! At least one of your goals doesn't seem to square with the facts on the ground and it maybe time to finally let go.

Electoral threshold of 6% is a stimulus for creating a normal and stable pluriparty system, Vladimir Voronin

”The restoration of the electoral threshold of 6% is not a modification of the rules of the games but a stimulus for creating a normal and stable pluriparty system,” President Vladimir Voronin told a news conference on July 23.

According to the head of state, the electoral threshold in Moldova during the past ten years had been 6% and was decreased to 4% with the aim of challenging the opponents of the Communist Party of Moldova. “The electoral block “Democratic Moldova” was the first to fall apart, followed by the Our Moldova Alliance Party and the Democratic Party. The spectrum represented by our political adversaries became a mosaic,” the head of state said.

“We have restored the threshold and we see that the Opposition began to join forces,” Vladimir Voronin stated.

In April this year, the Parliament introduced a set of amendments to the electoral legislation, banning the creation of electoral blocks and raising the electoral threshold from 4% to 6%.

Recently, the European Commission expressed its concerns about the mentioned amendments and called on the Moldovan authorities to make sure that the 2009 legislative elections are free and democratic.//REPORTER.MD
