Vladimir Voronin says Moldova has overcome misunderstandings with Romania

The Republic of Moldova has overcome the misunderstandings that existed in the dialogue with Romania and expects that Romania will make a political decision over the signing of the Basic Political Treaty and of the Agreement on the Moldovan-Romanian Border.

The statement was made by President Vladimir Voronin at the traditional summing up conference held on July 23.

The head of state said that the talks over the two agreements are coming to an end and all the problems, including those related to the language in which the documents will be written, have been solved. “We have decided that the documents will be written in “’the official languages of the states’, “ Voronin stressed.

Vladimir Voronin reiterated that Moldova is ready to sign the two documents without imposing conditions. “Romania must only make the political decision,” Voronin stated. Speaking about the Convention on Small-Scale Border Trafficking, the president said that it will be signed only after the signing and ratification of the Border Agreement.

As to the opening of new Romanian consulates in Cahul and Balti, Voronin said that the given decision was made on a reciprocal basis as Moldova will open consulates in Iasi and Constanta.

In conclusion, Vladimir Voronin said that the recent visit of the Romanian Foreign Minister Lazar Comanescu was very productive. “It was one of the most constructive and fruitful visits of a Romanian official to Chisinau. The discussions showed that Romania and Moldova can remedy the existent problems,” the chief of state said.//REPORTER.MD
