PLDM offers PL and AMN to set up a joint council for dialogue and cooperation

The Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova (PLDM) sent a letter to the Liberal Party (PL) and the Our Moldova Alliance Party (AMN) offering the two parties to set up a joint council for dialogue and cooperation in view of the 2009 legislative elections.

Such an announcement was made by the PLDM leader Vladimir Filat at a news conference on July 17. He said that PLDM proposed the AMN leader Serafim Urecheanu and the PL leader Mihai Ghimpu to create the council with a view to making correct decisions as regards the method of participating in the elections.

Filat said that such an initiative results from the necessity of a permanent dialogue and cooperation. “It is very clear that the parties called by the head of state as “good” coordinate their actions and this is evident in the local public administration, in the Parliament and in the Chisinau Council. That’s why I think that the Opposition parties should cooperate,” Filat said.

According to him, the proposal was addressed namely to PL and AMN because he considers that these parties have chances to enter the Parliament and hold the majority and because they have common visions and interests. Filat said that such a joint consultative body could later attract other parties that will subscribe to the principles and objectives of the members.

Filat also said that PLDM has already prepared an alternative government, but is expecting proposals from the other parties.

"I hope that the council will be functional,” Filat said, voicing hope that PL and AMN will accept the PLDM’s proposal. He said that he is expecting an answer from them by September.//REPORTER.MD
