Vladimir Voronin says creation of GUAM peacekeeping force is inexpedient

President Vladimir Voronin believes that the establishment of the peacekeeping force of GUAM is an inexpedient move.

“The point is that there are no economic constituents in GUAM for this purpose. They began to think what else to include to GUAM obligations. First of all, we will never join any military, half-military organization or organization which looks like half-military. Last year, they thought of some peacekeeping forces. There is no need to think of anything like that. There is no economic constituent,” Voronin said in an interview with the Ukrainian newspaper Stolichniye Novosti.

According to Voronin, the consolidation of economic cooperation within GUAM, especially in the field of supply of oil and energy, will enable to make the activities of this organization more efficient. The President considers that the energy orientation should be the major economic constituent. “Azerbaijan means oil, while Ukraine – energy,” he said.

Vladimir Voronin also said that Moldova does not think of the possibility of withdrawing from GUAM. “The Moldovan government does not plan it. On the contrary, we want to make GUAM a functional organization and to continue efforts in this regard,” the President said.//REPORTER.MD
