Transdniestria’s foreign minister dismissed
The leader of the breakaway region of Transdniestria Igor Smirnov on July 1 signed a decree dismissing Valery Litskai from the post of foreign minister.
Litskai had also been Tiraspol’s representative at the Transdniestria conflict settlement talks since 1992. He formed part of the “green team” that supported Smirnov in his efforts to proclaim Transdniestria’s independence. He is also the first member of the Tiraspol administration that was discharged. According to the press service of Igor Smirnov, Litskai was replaced by Vladimir Yastrebchak. Though the appointment decree was signed on July 1, Yastrebchak was presented to the employees of the Transdniestrian foreign ministry on June 27. As the Russian press reported, Litskai was dismissed because the relations between Transdniestria’s executive and Russia have considerably worsened as a result of his activity. ![]() Earlier, the former president of the Transdniestrian Supreme Soviet Grigori Marakuta severely criticized Litskai for his activity. He said that Litskai did not fulfill his professional obligations and blamed him for Transdniestria’s failure at the March 13 hearings at Russia’s State Duma. Marakuta also said that Litskai was not welcome anywhere and this fact had a negative impact on Transdniestria’s image. Valery Litskai had been minister of foreign affairs of Transdniestria for 17 years// Reporter.MD Publication date: 02 July 2008 Source: Archive
