You need to take care of family issues today, even if you thought they were behind you. Things keep popping up, though -- that's just the way it is. You're happy to deal this time, though.

Wildfire smoke spreads over No. California

Air advisories continue over Northern California with officials hoping for some relief at the start of the work week from smoke produced by wildfires.

The Bay Area Air Quality Management District had no plans to lift its health advisory, and children, the elderly and people with heart and lung diseases were advised to limit outdoor activities. But forecasters were predicting ocean breezes will start clearing out the haze Monday, the San Jose Mercury News reported Sunday.

Alerts are issued when airborne particulate levels exceed federal standards of an average of 35 parts per million over eight hours. Air-quality districts from Bakersfield to Redding issued health advisories through the weekend, with readings in Northern California generally anywhere from two to 10 times federal guidelines.

Until the breeze lifts, smoky haze from numerous wildfires in places such as Big Sur and through the Ventana Wilderness that has hung like a pall over Silicon Valley for the past week, many people continue to seek refuge indoors.

You just don't want to be outside, said Kara Westbrook, who took her 14-year-old son and a friend to see a movie at a San Jose mall. It's yucky. I've had a sore throat and we're all really fatigued.
