Police: Girl, 11, died during game

Investigators say that a young Florida girl hanged herself by accident while playing a suffocation roulette game.

Immediately after Deneithia Service's death on June 15, authorities thought that the 11-year-old deliberately killed herself, The St. Petersburg Times reported. But investigators have concluded that she was trying to get high by cutting off oxygen.

Her brother found Deneithia in a closet with a belt around her neck and attached to a high shelf. He cut her down but was unable to revive her.

State Rep. Darryl Rouson, who is the family's lawyer, called the death absolutely tragic. He said that he remembers that in his high-school wrestling days wrestlers used a sleeper hold to cut off others' oxygen.

He said he hoped other children would learn from Deneisha's death the risks they are taking.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control says that 82 children and teenagers have accidentally killed themselves with strangling or suffocation games.
