Mediators and observers in Transnistrian conflict discuss in Helsinki resumption of negotiations between Chisinau and Tiraspol
The mediators and observers in the Transnistrian conflict, who gathered together in Helsinki to discuss the issue, described the process of resumption of negotiations between Chisinau and Tiraspol as being on the right way.
In line with a statement made by the OSCE, quoted by BASA-press, the members of the "3+2" group, which includes the Organization for Cooperation and Security in Europe, which organized the reunion, Russia and Ukraine as well as the European Union and The United States as observers, met on June 10, in Helsinki. They agreed to bolster the resumption of negotiations in the "5+2" format. Finland has backed the resumption of the dialog on the Transnistrian conflict since it took over the mandate of the presidency of the OSCE. Special Envoy of OSCE, Heikki Talvitie, stated that one of the objectives of the meeting was to prepare the future meeting in the "5+2" format, with the participation of Moldova and breakaway Transnistria. He described the meeting between the mediators and observers as being encouraging, although no certain date of the meeting was established. Within the reunion, the participants also examined aspects related to the way Chisinau and Tiraspolul are implementing the common measures to bolster confidence between the parties in the domains of ecology, transport and health. // BASA-Press Publication date: 12 June 2008 Source: Archive
