Gagauzian Popular Assembly elected its speaker
New Speaker of the Popular Assembly of the Administrative Territorial Unity (ATU) Gagauzia is MP for the part of Moldovan Communist Party (PCRM), Demian Caraseni, BASA-press reports.
Prime-secretary of county Party Committee from Comrat, MP Irina Vlah stated for the Agency that within the plenary sitting of the Gagauzian Popular Assembly on Thursday, June 12, candidate for the part of PCRM Demian Caraseni, was elected in this office being voted for by 18 MPs. Another candidate, MP Harlamenco Ana, editor-in-chief of the newspaper “Capitala Comrat", gathered only 16 votes. Vlah mentioned that the other MPs, dissatisfied with the result, left the sitting hall. Previously Irina Vlah specified that the attempts to elect a speaker of the Popular Assembly have been repeatedly delayed because Gagauzian governor Mihail Formuzal involved too much in the process, what is not stipulated in the Legislation in force. The PCRM candidate, Demian Caraseni, was put forward for the office of the speaker of the Popular Assembly at the first attempt of elections, on April 30 which failed because no one gathered the necessary number of votes. The second attempt also failed. The next sitting had to be held on May 12 but it did not. Since June 5, the MPs gathered together to elect the speaker but the result was ultimately obtained within the sitting on June 12. // BASA-Press Publication date: 13 June 2008 Source: Archive
