Valeriu Ostalep to discuss draft Convention on Small Border Traffic in Bucharest
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Valeriu Ostalep will make a working visit to Bucharest on May 28 and meet with his Romanian counterpart, the Secretary of State Raduta Matache.
According to the Moldovan Foreign Ministry, Ostalep and Matache will discuss a number of issues, including the possibilities of strengthening the relations between the two foreign ministries, Romania’s support in promoting a new cooperation framework between Moldova and the EU, development assistance projects as well as the bilateral relations between Moldova and Romania, the communiqu? says. The two officials will review the results of the round of talks held in Bucharest on May 14-15, 2008 and will discuss the draft Convention on Small-Scale Border Traffic, the cancellation of visas that the Moldovans that hold Schengen visas and permits of staying in the EU need to cross Romania, and other subjects of common interest. Valeriu Ostalep will pay the visit one day after the meeting of the EU-Moldova Cooperation Council that will consider the possibility of initiating talks over a new cooperation framework between Moldova and the EU. Moldova offered Romania to address a joint statement to the EU, asking it to liberalize the visa regime for Moldovans, including the Transdniestria residents. Also, the Moldovan authorities proposed that the Convention on Small-Scale Border Traffic should cover the entire territory of Moldova, including Transdniestria. A number of MEPs were quick to react, saying that the Moldovan authorities’ proposal is unrealistic because Moldova does not have control over its whole territory // Reporter.MD Publication date: 27 May 2008 Source: Archive
