The White House Tuesday flatly denied an article in an Israeli newspaper stating U.S. President George Bush intended to attack Iran.

The article is not worth the paper it's printed on, White House Press Secretary Dana Perino said in a statement.

The Jerusalem Post, quoting Israel Army Radio (which quoted an unnamed official in Jerusalem), reported that Bush intended to attack Iran before he finished his term but hadn't decided to so do because members of his administration were hesitant about the action.

The Israeli official was quoted as saying Hezbollah's strength in Lebanon demonstrated Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's influence in the region.

We, along with our international allies who want peace in the Middle East, remain opposed to Iran's ambitions to obtain a nuclear weapon, Perino said.

To that end, we are working to bring tough diplomatic and economic pressure on the Iranians to get them to change their behavior and to halt their uranium enrichment program ... our preference and our actions for dealing with this matter remain through peaceful diplomatic means, Perino said.

Nothing has changed in that regard.
