Moldova offers Romania to forward joint statement on visa liberalization regime for Moldovans to EU
Moldova offered Romania to address a joint statement on the liberalization of the visa regime for Moldovans to the EU.
Representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration last week met with Romanian officials in Bucharest and discussed aspects of the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement between Moldova and Romania and of the State Border Treaty. According to Romanian press reports, sources in the Romanian foreign ministry said that the discussions on these topics have not been closed yet. The Moldovan officials proposed that Moldova and Romania should submit a joint statement to the EU, asking it to consider the possibility of liberalizing the visa regime for all the Moldovan citizens, including the Transdniestria residents. Recently, the Moldovan Foreign Ministry proposed that the convention on small-scale border traffic should cover the entire territory of Moldova, including Transdniestria. A number of MEPs were quick to react, saying that the Moldovan authorities’ proposal is unrealistic because Moldova does not have control over its whole territory // Reporter.MD Publication date: 19 May 2008 Source: Archive
