Opposition blockades Parliament’s central rostrum
The parliamentary opposition blocked the access to the central rostrum of the Parliament on May 16 in protest at the Communist majority’s refusal to accept the Opposition’s initiatives, shouting out “Down with the Dictatorship”, “Down with the Communists”, “Shame”, “Communists, Go Away”.
The Opposition MPs decided to blockade the rostrum after the Communists turned down their proposal to set up a special commission that would investigate a case in a Hancesti hospital, where the Health Ministry appointed a candidate that had been accepted neither by the doctors, nor by the Hancesti District Council as the hospital’s head. The Communist majority also refused to invite the Health Minister Larisa Catrinic and Prime Minister Zinaida Greceanyi to a Parliament’s meeting to provide explanations over this case. The Opposition MPs brought a tape recorder and a flute near the rostrum. While the tape recorder was playing a Japanese song, the MPs were tapping and chanting anti-Communist slogans. The Communist MPs did not seem disturbed by the Opposition’s actions and adopted all the bills included in the agenda during15 minutes. The Christian-Democratic MPs were not attending the meeting, while the Democrats preferred to leave the hall. At the end of the meeting, which ended in an extremely cheerful mode, as Speaker Marian Lupu said, the Opposition remained near the rostrum and chanted “Communists, Go Away”.// Reporter.MD Publication date: 17 May 2008 Source: Archive
