Lupu and Shevchuk discuss Transdniestria conflict in Brussels
The Moldovan Speaker Marian Lupu had an informal meeting with the head of the Transdniestrian parliament Evgheni Shevchuk in Brussels and considered the possibility of immediately resuming the Transdniestria conflict settlement talks.
According to the Moldovan Parliament’s press service, the informal meeting was attended by the EU Special Representative for Moldova Kalman Mizsei and other European officials. The participants voiced hope that the initiated dialogue will go on and stressed the necessity of resuming the Transdniestria conflict settlement talks in the 5+2 format as soon as possible. The interlocutors discussed the measures aimed at building confidence between Chisinau and Tiraspol and at facilitating the free movement of the goods and services between the two banks of the Dniester. For their part, the European officials welcomed the initiation of the dialogue between the two banks of the Dniester, expressing their confidence that the direct contacts between Chisinau and Tiraspol can help identify a viable solution to the Transdniestrian conflict.
