Try to give yourself a reality check -- it may be tough to get it from anyone else! At least one of your goals doesn't seem to square with the facts on the ground and it maybe time to finally let go.

Romanian MEP says Moldova’s expectations of convention on small border traffic are unrealistic

"The proposal that the convention on small cross-border traffic should include Transdniestria submitted by the Moldovan authorities is unrealistic because Romania is the EU’s eastern border, while Moldova does not have control over its whole territory,” MEP Renate Weber was quoted by the Romanian press as saying.

The official said that if the Moldovan authorities propose that the convention should cover all Moldova’s territory, including Transdniestria, this means they consider they have influence over the whole territory.

“Of course, on one officially recognizes Transdniestria. The EU regards it a Moldovan territory, but de facto the situation is different. It is normal to sign a treaty on free movement within the border regions, but Moldovan authorities’ expectations are unrealistic because Romania is the EU’s eastern border and it must have a reliable partner that can administer its borders and territories in case the convention is signed,” Weber said.

On May 14, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Moldova issued a statement proposing that the convention on small cross-border traffic should cover the entire territory of Moldova, including Transdniestria. It also suggested signing the Border Treaty simultaneously with the convention // Reporter.MD
