Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert Sunday threatened to impose quiet on Gaza if Hamas insurgents continued to fire rockets into Israel.

Let it be clear -- we view Hamas as completely responsible for everything that happens in the Gaza Strip, Olmert said during the weekly cabinet meeting in Jerusalem.

Olmert's threat was in response to Israeli Transportation Minister Shaul Mofaz, who said if Hamas did not stop terror activities … We need to act against these components continually to bring calm to the region, The Jerusalem Post said.

Olmert said he could not promise to end the escalating violence any time soon.

But I do promise one thing, he said. Either there will be quiet or we will act with such force that will impose quiet.
