The European Party (EP) proposes the institution of a moratorium on the great amount of changes to the Constitution, proposed by different parties and politicians in the last period of time, DECA-press Agency transmits.

„At present, there are many initiatives of changing the Constitution, beginning with the ones connected with the name of language and the review of the principle of neutrality of the country and ending with the ones connected with the procedure of election of the president of the republic and deputies in the Parliament. Most of them are necessary and useful, but now, it is the best moment to promote them”, a statement of EP shows.

The faction reminds that, on the basis of the current Constitution, Republic of Moldova was accepted as a member of Council of Europe.

„It would be better if this moratorium were in effect at least till the exclusion of Moldova from the CE monitoring procedure. It is expected that this thing happens after the parliamentary elections from 2009. At that moment, we will already know the configuration of the new Parliament – thus, we will be able to assess in concrete terms the chances of efficiency of these initiatives”, the cited document says.

EP is sure that any discussion about the modification of the Constitution now will give concrete results and „will only raise a conflict in the society”. // DECA-Press
