Draft on removal of permanent checkpoints from Security Zone not examined within sitting on March, 27
The negotiations related to the examinations of the removal of the permanent checkpoints from the Security Zone have failed again. The sitting of the Joint Control Commission (JCC) on March, 27, was again postponed due to the fact that the Transnistrian party refused to examine the draft.
Moldovan Representative to JCC Ion Leahu stated for BASA-press that the Transnistrian party did not accept to include on the agenda the examination of the draft. „We shall come together for the next sitting and insist further on that the issue be examined by the Transnistrian party. We hope that in the end it will accept the examination of the draft in order to offer the citizens to travel freely.” Leahu said. „The failure of the JCC sitting affects the JCC representatives both from Russia and Ukraine, what is not very good.” Leahu stated for the Agency. Previously, the representatives of the JCC within Russia, Ukraine, and OSCE stated that they back Chisinau’s initiative related to the removal of the checkpoints from the Security Zone. The Moldovan delegation to the JCC has repeatedly suggested the removal of the fifteen permanent checkpoints of peace-keeping troops, due to the fact that the situation allows it. // BASA-Press Publication date: 28 March 2008 Source: Archive
