Communists contest the importance of the Union Act from 1918
Communists do not agree with their colleagues from the opposition, who appreciate the act of Union of Basarabia with Romania from 1918 as one of the most important historic events. They believe that, on the contrary, this is “one of the darkest moments of history”, DECA-press Agency informs.
The communist deputy Grigore Petrenco, president of the parliamentary for foreign policy and European integration, declared on Thursday, in the Parliament that, in the first ten years of union, many revolts against Romanians have been held, in which nearly 30 thousand people died. He also said that, after Romanians have come to Basarabia, at least 300 thousand people ran away to Soviet Union and European countries. The deputy accused Romania of the fact that, in the inter-war period, took away from the territory of the current Republic of Moldova all the assets which were of economic interest, as well as of the fact it hadn’t constructed here any strong economic unit. Petrenco believes that unionists deliberately ignore some historic facts and destroy the truth. // DECA-Press Publication date: 28 March 2008 Source: Archive
