Romanian Foreign Minister: Romania to back Moldova’s integration into EU, regardless of future Government
Romanian Foreign Minister Adrian Cioroianu stated that regardless of the new Moldovan Government’s formula, Romania will further back any coherent projects which would draw Moldova closer to the European Union.
Cioroianu stated that Tarlev’s resignation was discussed within the Consultative Council, Mediafax reports, quoted by BASA-press. "We are waiting for offers for the new Government. Let us see which they will be. At the same time, we shall certainly go on working with Premier Tarlev, who I believe will be in office 40-45 days more, until the new Government is appointed. Regardless of the new Government’s formula, our priorities for Moldova remain the same: to back any coherent projects which would draw Moldova closer to the European Union." Romanian Premier Calin Popescu Tariceanu also stated that Moldova has the necessary mechanisms to function in case the Government resigns. "It is an interior issue which we do not have the right to comment on. Moldova has to behave as a state with strong institutions. In case the Government resigns there are mechanisms which allow a good functioning and the whole political process to form a new Government." Tariceanu stated. Premier Vasile Tarlev submitted the resignation within the Wednesday sitting, on March, 19, 2008, in which Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin also participated. Tarlev said he resigned to give the possibility to other people to reach new results. "During all these years, we managed to achieve effective results including in training the Governmental staff, who, to my mind can be entrusted with heading the Government and not only this." Vasile Tarlev stated, in line with a statement on the Governmental site. Voronin stated that the Government successfully carried out the tasks appointed during the seven years, but added that time demands changes, including replacement of people. The president accepted the premier’s resignation and awarded him with the "Decoration of Republic", the highest Moldovan decoration. Vladimir Voronin asked Tarlev to be in office till the new Government is formed. // BASA-Press Publication date: 20 March 2008 Source: Archive
