Journalists accredited to the Government came up with an informal list of candidates to Premier of Moldova
Foreign Minister Andrei Stratan, Minister of Economy and Trade Igor Dodon, communist MP Vladimir Turcan, Chairman of the Committee for Legal Issues and former Minister of Transport Vasile Zgardan, were included by several journalists in a list of potential candidates to Premier of Moldova instead of Vasile Tarlev, who resigned on Wednesday, March 19.
Vasile Tarlev stressed in front of the press after he had resigned in the Government meeting, that currently he knows at least five candidates who possess the necessary characteristics in order to head a cabinet of ministers, but without naming one. At the same time, Premier Vasile Tarlev told he does not intend to enter into politics after his resignation, but rather turn into business on grounds that it is closer to him, but also because he wants to use the moral capital and the relationships he accumulated over the past seven years when he acted as head of the cabinet of ministers. Tarlev also stated that during the next period he intends to spend more time with his family and friends he neglected because the office he headed “imposed great restrictions in this regard”. Premier Vasile Tarlev announced he wants to resign from this function at the Government meeting on Wednesday, March 19, in the presence of President Vladimir Voronin. During the meeting Vladimir Voronin has appreciated a lot the achievements of Premier Tarlev, due to whom "the country reached stability incomparable with the one in 2001". "I honestly and from all my heart appreciate Vasile Tarlev’s achievements, but we need new forces to address the issues related with the European integration, Transnistrian settlement, and for the promotion of economic reforms", Voronin stressed. // BASA-Press Publication date: 19 March 2008 Source: Archive
