A US Airways flight from Charlotte, N.C., was delayed Tuesday while firefighters removed an unknown liquid from the jet's cargo area, the airline said.

The Charlotte (N.C.) Observer reported that the fire department was called after US Airways workers noticed a liquid substance while loading bags into the cargo area of an Airbus A321 plane en route to Tampa, Fla.

Safety is their No. 1 priority, so they called in a team to identify it, said airline spokeswoman Michelle Mohr. That's a pretty routine step.

She said no passengers were on the plane when the substance was found, and the crew complained of no adverse reactions, the newspaper reported.

Everybody's fine, Mohr said. Everybody's safe.
