Second round election in UTA Gagauzia to be held on March, 30, 2008
The second round election in the ATU Gagauzia is to be held on March, 30, 2008, where 17 MPs in Gagauzian Popular Assembly are to be elected.
During the first round election, which was held on March, 16, 18 MPs of 35 electoral circumscriptions were elected, President of Gagauzian Central Electoral Commission Piotr Ivanov stated for BASA-press. „Out of the 18 MPs elected, three are for the part of the Moldovan Communist Party, two represent the Democratic Party in Moldova and one – social-political Movement „Ravnopravie”. The remaining 12 MPs elected, are independent.” Ivanov said. Ivanov also mentioned that the attendance rate on the Gaguzian territory surpassed 60%. The most active were the voters from the rural areas, some villages registered 80% turnout. About 85 thousand voters are residents of ATU Gagauzia.
