The electoral campaign from UTA Gagauzia is held without any waiver from the legislation
The electoral campaign for the elections in the People's Assembly (legislative body of the autonomy) from UTA Gagauzia is held without any disorders in term of the electoral legislation, the first monitoring report presented on Tuesday by the League for Human Rights Defence (LADOM) says.
DECA-press specifies that the report covered the monitoring period of February 14th – March 10th. The president of LADOM, Paul Strutzescu, said that, in this region, there is almost no electoral campaign. „In the monitoring period, February 14th – March 10th, there weren't recorded any disorders which could influence on the results of the elections. At the same time, there are negative aspects which could influence the results of the elections such as: the unclear juridical status of local laws and their non-correspondence to the Electoral Code of Moldova, the groundless involvement of central public authorities in the electoral process, etc, Strutzescu said. On the Election Day, March 16th, LADOM will send to this region 140 observers, who will be distributed at each polling station of 35 countries from Gagauzia. The project „Monitoring of elections in the People's Assembly of UTA Gagauz-Yeri” is financed by Eurasia Foundation – Representative in Moldova, with the sources of USAID, SIDA, OSCE Mission to Moldova and Balkan Trust for Democracy. // DECA-Press Publication date: 12 March 2008 Source: Archive
