Washington: Rodger Potocki, Igor Munteanu and Lawrence Silverman about the current situation in Moldova

Chisinau / Moldova.ORG / - Today in Washington were held discussions about the current situation in Moldova.

Rodger Potocki, general manager of the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) in his speech mentioned the importance of the events from April 2009 and the elections from July 2009, which gave a new impetus to the development of the country.

Igor Munteanu, Moldovan Ambassador to the United States of America, also attended the event and mentioned the importance of immediate reforms in Moldova in order to accelerate the European integration process, specifying the need to solve the Transnistrian problem. He also reiterated U.S. Vice President Joe Biden’s message, sent on 11 March at his visit to Chişinǎu, that U.S. supports Moldova.

Lawrence Silverman, Director of Relations Office for Ukraine, Moldova and Belarus, the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs, U.S. State Department, said that Moldova is a small country, but it will pass through a lot of transformations. In this regard, Mr. Silverman emphasized the need to implement a series of reforms in Moldova, to resolve the issue of the presidential election, and to the fight against corruption.
