Voter lists to be checked at Moldovan election body before polls
The district polling stations will submit the e-version of the voter lists to the Central Election Commission (CEC) till 6 July to be checked by experts, including international ones, a candidate for MP on the ticket of the Party of Communists, Vladimir Turcan, told a today's news conference.
Turcan said that this is done to exclude different statements by some election contenders on the lists' falsification. Referring to the increase in the number of voters, Turcan said that it is due to the improvement of the compilation of the lists, including by the introduction of the e-system of residents' record.
"While in 2005, over 2,270 million eligible voters were included in the voter lists, in 2009, their number rose to 2,586 million citizens. Moreover, during the last four years, the number of young people who turned 18 increased by over 306,000 people, which also significantly influenced the increase in the total number of voters," the PCRM representative said.
Turcan also said that, in comparison with 2005, at the 5 April polls, the number of voters included in the additional voter lists dropped by over 42,000 people, and was 117,563 people. "Only these figures clearly prove that we have just a small increase of the number of voters, as well as the fact that we gradually work to improve the voter lists. It is also true that the lists are presently better than in 2005," Turcan said.
