Moldova's former President Vladimir Voronin does not believe that, under certain political circumstances, Russia could recognize independence of Moldova's breakaway Dniester region as it has already done with Georgia's Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

Speaking at a news conference today, Voronin said that "such issues are not solved so easily, they need to be thoroughly discussed in line with international rules".

Voronin recalled that Moldova and Russia signed a basic political treaty back in 2002.

"In this document, Russia recognized the territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova of which the Dniester region is a part," Voronin added.
