Vladimir Voronin makes a visit to Bucharest on Wednesday
President Vladimir Voronin will make a visit to Bucharest on Wednesday where he will participate in the Summit of heads of state and government of the South East European Cooperation Process (SEECP).
According to the presidential press service, the head of state will present Moldova at this Summit as observer. This will be the first participation of our country in the SEECP Summit. Moldova entered with the statute of observer in October 2004.
SEECP was founded in 1996, members of this regional structures being Albania, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Greece, Macedonia, Romania, Serbia and Montenegro and Turkey. Representatives of the European Commission, Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe and of the Stability Pact for South Eastern Europe will also participate in the Summit from Bu
charest.
Presidential press service does not specify if the President’s visit frames in the format of an official visit, or if Vladimir Voronin will have in Bucharest bilateral meetings with Romanian officials or with some of the participants in the Summit.
Vladimir Voronin was born in 1941 in the village of Corjova, Dubăsari District of the Moldavian Soviet Socialist Republic. Despite his Russified name, his ethnic origins are Romanian and, in fact, he was born with last name Sârbu, but, later he took his Russian stepfather's last name Voronin. His grandfather Isidor Sârbu was an anticommunist fighter in Romania after 1944. Although Voronin is a lifelong communist who pursued unfriendly policies towards Romania.
