U.S. President Obama have almost been given up for adoption
Elena Vnorovscaia / Chişinău / Moldova.ORG / -- In the spring of 1961, Barack Obama Sr. was investigated by federal immigration officials who were concerned that he had more than one wife.
When they interviewed him in Hawaii in the spring of 1961, the then 24-year-old insisted he had divorced his first wife in Kenya and informed them that his new wife Ann Dunham was five months’ pregnant.
An immigration document has revealed that the parents of United States President Barack Obama had plans to put their unborn child for adoption to the Salvation Army which provides for the special care of children and youth who are unable to remain in their own homes.
“Subject got his USC [United States citizen] wife 'Hapai’ [Hawaiian for pregnant] and although they were married they do not live together and Miss Dunham is making arrangements with the Salvation Army to give the baby away,’’ wrote Lyle H. Dahling, an administrator in the Honolulu immigration office, on April 12, 1961.
But Obama and Dunham family members insisted that his mother always intended to keep him.
Robert Gibbs, the former White House press secretary, suggested Mr. Obama’s father was lying in order to preserve his immigration status. “He was trying to convince immigration to let him stay. So, part of his effort was to convince immigration that some of the responsibilities that he had he would not continue to have.’’
Obama’s parents’ story:
At the time of Barack Obama Sr. and Ann Dunham marriage, mixed marriages were banned in 22 states, and in some other states the relationship between the white and black races was considered as a criminal offense. Young Obama’s parents met each other at the University of Hawaii in 1960. Obama Sr. was the only African in this university.
The couple divorced in 1963. Ann Dunham was left alone with the baby on her arms, and Barack continued his dating with other women. He died when his son, current U.S. president, was only 11 years old.
In his book “Dreams From My Father” president Barack Obama wrote that his mother was thinking about giving him up for adoption to a foster family because there was an extremely hostile attitude to the appearance black baby in a white family in USA of that time.
