U.S. embassy calls for free and fair elections in Moldova
The United States welcomes Moldova’s decision to hold the legislative elections on April 5. A statement issued by the U.S. Embassy in Chisinau says that the U.S. lays the stress on the importance of fair and transparent elections enabling the Moldovan people to freely choose their leaders.
“We call on the Government of Moldova to ensure access to mass media for all the candidates and the right to free assembly in an atmosphere where there is no intimidation,” the Embassy says in the statement.
The U.S. also welcomes Moldova’s intention to closely cooperate with international observers during the election campaign and on the election day.
On February 2, the Parliament of Moldova decided that the legislative elections will be held on April 5. The election campaign started on February 4. From February 5, the candidates can file the documents required for being regarded as contenders.
