Two Moldovan-Romanian agreements to be signed amid political instability in Romania
Two important cooperation agreements will be signed today by Moldovan Premier Vlad Filat and his Romanian counterpart Victor Ponta. One of the documents to be signed is the cooperation between the Moldovan and Romanian Education Ministries for 2012-2015 time periods. Another partnership will be signed in the Justice sector of the countries for 2012-2013.
Victor Ponta will be met with demonstrations in Moldova’s capital of Chisinau as some Facebook users planned on the social network. The Romanian Premier has been facing a difficult period after the European Union is demanding explanations for his actions since he took office a few months ago. He initiated an action to suspend the President Traian Basescu. There will be held a referendum on July 29 when Romanians will decide whether Basescu will stay or leave his office. The Romanian Prime Minister faces some allegations of plagiarism of his PhD thesis.
Traian Basescu told the Moldovan journalists on Monday not to trust Victor Ponta during his visit to Chisinau.
“He is a man who lied a lot. He plagiarized his biography. I don’t know if he didn’t plagiarize his own date of birth, as well,” the Romanian President said yesterday.
This will be Ponta’s first visit to Moldova after he began his term.
