Transnistrian conflict discussed in Bucharest

The conflict in Transnistria was recently debated in Romania’s capital of Bucharest. On February 8, the Romanian Secretary of State Bogdan Aurescu had a meeting with the Special Representative for the Transnistrian conflict of the OSCE Chairmanship, Erwan Fouere.

The counterparts talked about the developments registered within the management of the conflict in Transnistria. They welcomed the revival of “5+2” negotiation format, underlying the need of a dynamic conflict management.

Bogdan Aurescu emphasized Romania’s support in the advising “5+2” mechanism, which should lead to a sustainable solution. He also said that the conflict should be solved according to international law, protecting the sovereignty of the Republic of Moldova.
Transnistria is a breakaway region of Moldova. Its leadership recently changed for the first time in 20 years.
