Transnistria, what does Russia wish to say?

The declarations of the Russian President Dmitri Medvedev concerning the solution of the Transnistria conflict, created a wave of different declarations, and especially from the side of Ukraine and Transnistria.

The Moldovan political analyst Petru Bogatu declares that the Russian President mentioned Romania as one of the most important actors in the solution of the Transnistria conflict because the Moldova society increasingly understands its Romanian origins. The analyst mentions that many persons in Moldova believe they are Romanians and identify themselves with Romanians. This is why the influence of Romania in Moldova has increased very much in the recent time and Russia understands this situation.

The opinion of the Russian analyst Evgheni Minchenko is that the declarations of Medvedev may have the aim to point out to Romania to assume some obligations concerning the Transnistrian conflict. Vadim Karasev a Ukrainian political analyst mentions that Romania has to lower its territorial pretensions in the region, and to not try to unify with Moldova, this can in the opinion of the analyst to contribute to the solution of the conflict. Karasev mentioned that Medvedev forgot Ukraine because he understands the role and the importance of Ukraine in the solution of the conflict. Vitali Kulik another Ukrainian analyst mentions that Romania is not interested in the solution of the conflict, it wants to keep a state of instability in the region and it just wishes to eliminate informally Russia from the negotiation process.

Meanwhile the Russian Federation will offer till the end of the year a financial assistance to the Transnistrian self-proclaimed regime, in sum of 12 millions dollars also Transnistria benefits of low prices for the Russian gas and electricity. In this situation Russia supports the criminal regime from Tiraspol, while declaring that it wants to solve the conflict. The declarations of Medvedev that the discussions about the solution of the conflict will start after the parliamentary elections in Moldova may show that Russia wishes to wait for pro-Russian political forces to come in the new Moldova parliament in order to slow down the negotiations about the retreat of the Russian armed forces from the territory of Moldova and the solution of the conflict.

There are sixteen years from the signing of the Moldova-Russian Agreement on the withdrawal of Russian military forces from Moldova. The conditions of the agreement are not respected till now by Russia.
